Landmark moment as GCFC Academy reaches 200 players.

By Callum Patterson

Glasgow City Foundation are delighted to announce that it has reached 200 players within the academy.

With many of our sides beginning pre-season preparations and our U19s in competitive action it continues to be a busy time and the continued growth of the academy delights Academy Manager Sarah Crilly:

“It was a target I had set for myself as soon as I came into the club. Being able to reach it so quickly is a huge credit to the coaches for their recruitment prior to the beginning to season 2022.and to every single player from U7s to U19s in showing their commitment to the club. The dedication of players, coaches and parent helpers does not go unnoticed and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of them for their hard work and continued enthusiasm for the club. Here’s to the next milestone! “

The Glasgow City academy gives the platform for girls to play football from U7s to U19s. We even have our mini kickers programme for 3-5 year olds every Friday too.

Sarah Crilly on a busy 2022 so far in the academy:

“It has been a great start to 2022 so far, training and matches are coming thick and fast for those leading up to a new season. Our U12’s are playing 9 a side football for the first time in a competitive league which will be a great experience for our younger players. All 4 of our new 14’s teams are adapting well to 11 a side football with some excellent results in their friendly matches and it is extremely exciting to watch them make this transition. We also have our new U18’s team for this year which is lead by terrific coaches and I am really looking forward to seeing the squad gel and compete in the new 18s league.

The Glasgow City Foundation has a lot of new and exciting projects coming up this year so please keep your eyes peeled on our social platforms for information coming soon. We will again be running our Holiday Camps this year and all information will confirmed for Easter Camp in the coming weeks. These camps have been a huge success in the past and it gives the girls an opportunity to meet some first team players!

2022 is well and truly underway! “

This weekend was topped off with a fantastic performance from our Under 19s National Performance side who reached the League Cup Final thanks to a 2-0 win away at Aberdeen, a week after a narrow win against the same opponents in the league. Goals from Sophia Martin in the first half and Sarah Gibb in the second will see them face Rangers or Hearts on March the 6th.

After recent successes with our academy sides at the end of 2021, Sarah Crilly is pleased another Glasgow City team have reached a final.

“I am delighted that the U19s have reached the League Cup Final, this is well deserved given the amount of time and effort the coaches and players put into the squad. Aberdeen are a great side and the match was played in extremely difficult conditions, however being able to secure their spot in the final on 6th March is a huge testament to the players. I am really looking forward to the final and I hope we drive attendance and get everyone along to support the girls. In the meantime it is back to training and a huge match this Friday evening against Hearts at GHA so it would be great if people can get down and show their support.”

Following on from the match on Friday evening, the U19s face Forfar Farmington at GHA in a ‘Breathing Space’ derby. Breathing Space are mental health partners for both Glasgow City and Forfar and we will have enhanced video and photo coverage of the game on Sunday.
